Metal Venetian Blinds

Cleaning Metal Venetian Blinds

Metal Venetian blinds are great for blocking and filtering light from the outdoors but keeping them clean can be quite a pain sometimes. As long as you know the simple steps though, cleaning them will be a fun habit for you to do. Here are the steps on how to clean metal Venetian blinds:

1.) Use a step stool or a ladder to take the blinds down the window. You may have to slide out a plastic piece from each of the brackets so you can get the blinds down.

2.) Place the metal Venetian blinds into the bathtub. If they don’t take too much space, put them lengthwise and let them out so the loosened slats will soak up more from the solution. Otherwise, place the blinds in your tub the way they would fit best. If you don’t want to use your tub, you can just use a child’s plastic pool.

3.) Fill the tub with water, turn the faucets on to let out a strong flow of hot water. You can use the flip lever or the rubber stopper to plug up the tub so liquid doesn’t drain out. Turn off the faucets once you see that the metal Venetian blinds are fully covered.

4.) Wear rubber gloves to protect your skin and add 2 cups of Clorox bleach to the water. Gently swish the water around with your hand to mix the bleach in well. Start scrubbing the slats with a soft brush so you can loosen the dust and dirt and then allow them to sit in the mixture for about two hours.

5.) Drain the water completely and then plug the stopper back and fill the tub with hot water again. Let the metal Venetian blinds soak for another 15 minutes to make sure remaining dirt or residue is wiped out. Drain the water again.

6.) Take the blinds out of the tub and let them air-dry. Hang the blinds where the dripping water will not damage anything like the clothesline or over a shower curtain rod. If you don’t want to hang your metal Venetian blinds, you can just lay them on a very thick beach or any large towel. Once dry, use a clean, lint-free cloth to remove any water spots before hanging them again on the windows.
